Marramarra

Marramarra
Artist: Amanda Hinkelmann

This artwork represents the purest components of The Dreaming - the creation time and the beginning of all. It links our ancestors’ stories, told throughout history, and ensures these sacred stories are passed from one
generation, to the next.

The Dreaming is a complex notion, a time when all was created. When the land was flat and empty, dry and bare. From dust and desolation, it was given life by our ancestral beings. This piece attempts to layer the complexity of stories, lives, morals, people, animals, food, and their role in supporting and forming life on Mother Earth. All that was pure in creation. It layers those precious, still moments at the very beginning of time.

Born on Wiradjuri Land in Wagga Wagga, Amanda is an exceptionally passionate and talented Aboriginal artist who has been creating breathtaking original artworks from her studio under the moniker ‘Because of my Four’ for many years now. Amanda’s artworks share stories of resilience, strength, and the power of women. She draws inspiration from her hometown of Wagga Wagga, her family, and the Dreamtime - displaying Aboriginal culture and storytelling in her own contemporary Aboriginal art style, developed through intuition and an innate desire to create.
